There are many challenges to electrifying your vehicle system. Eliminating the engine and replacing it with a battery system is only the first step in the process to reconfiguring your product for an electric future. The most obvious questions like “how do we recharge the battery” are not easy to solve. Sourcing high quality, automotive grade components can be extremely difficult for OEMs just beginning their electrification journey.
Many Tier 1 suppliers are simply unwilling to work with the small production volumes typical for new platforms. Xerotech have solved this problem by standardizing the power systems used with its battery system. We are able to amalgamate many different smaller customers together and achieve economies of scale that make supplying components possible.
Xerotech offer the onboard charger (OBC) in high power (22 kW) and standard power (7 kW) along with a 12 V DC-DC converter solution. In every case, the battery supplier will need to integrate the battery charger and DC-DC with the battery management system as it has supervisory control over them. However, by using our preferred charger you avoid this integration cost and benefit from existing experience.
The 22 kW onboard charger minimizes cost, weight and volume by using silicon carbide semiconductor technology and an advanced high frequency switching topology. It is one of the highest performance and most cost effective solutions on the market today.
The 3 kW bi-directional DC-DC converter offers 3 kW in buck mode from 400 VDC and up to 1.2 kW in boost mode from 12 VDC.
Bi-directionality offers emergency recharge of the HV battery from common jump-start cables and also enables start-up of fuel cell auxiliary circuits (heavy-duty fuel cell vehicles only).
The combo OBC/DC-DC massively simplifies OEM power system integration. A 7 kW OBC, 2.2 kW DC-DC and HV distribution unit are combined into a single highly integrated unit maximizing packing efficiency.
