Cell Safety – Current Interrupt
Our Hibernium® battery packs are built exclusively with 2170 cylindrical battery cells. Yet another of the many good reasons we use this battery cell format is the added Current Interrupt Device contained in each individual battery cell.
The Current Interrupt Device (CID) is a fuse-type device that cuts off the electrical circuit permanently when triggered by excessive cell pressure, high temperature, or high voltage, depending on design.
The CID and vent mechanism is found in the cap of the battery cells and works to prevent thermal runaway risks by electrically isolating the cell upon internal pressure increase before the case can rupture.
As we shift towards an all-electric future, it is technology like this that is making electrification a reality, not just for the mass vehicle market, but for the highly diverse and demanding non-road mobile machinery market too.
