In the fifteenth instalment of our Tech Tuesday Series, we take a bite-sized look at what goes into the technology behind our battery tech, with the fifth of our safety features at the pack level.
Pack Safety – Isolation Monitoring
The Isolation monitoring system in Hibernium battery packs involves the use of dedicated circuits and sensors to measure the insulation resistance between the battery pack and vehicle chassis. The insulation resistance is an indicator of the integrity of the electrical insulation, which prevents unintended current leakage and potential short circuits.
Isolation monitoring is particularly crucial during charging or driving. During this, the electrical stress on the system is high, increasing the risk of faults or insulation degradation. By continuously monitoring the insulation resistance during these critical periods, isolation monitoring provides additional protection against electrical hazards and improves overall safety and reliability.
Overall, isolation monitoring is an indispensable safety feature of Xerotech’s high-voltage battery packs. Continuously monitoring the insulation resistance to detect faults and allow the system to take appropriate actions to mitigate risk and ensure the safety of the user, application and the surrounding environment.
