Pack Safety – High Voltage Interlock Monitoring
The High Voltage Interlock Monitoring system in Hibernium battery packs is crucial in ensuring the battery system’s safe operation. It consists of two interlock loops, each serving a specific purpose.
The first high-voltage interlock loop is designed to monitor the integrity of the battery enclosure and aims to prevent accidental activation of the battery pack. This is crucial because any damage or compromise to the enclosure can pose significant safety hazards, such as thermal runaway. Continuous monitoring allows the High Voltage Interlock Monitoring system to detect abnormalities, such as a breach or a loose connection, and trigger appropriate safety measures to mitigate potential risks.
The second interlock loop minimises the risk of exposed energised terminals within the high-voltage system. The system monitors the integrity of these connections – identifying any faults or failures that could result in exposed terminals. If such a situation is detected, the system can take immediate action to isolate the affected area, cut off the high-voltage power supply, and initiate appropriate safety protocols to prevent potential dangers.
As we shift towards an all-electric future, it is battery safety technology like this that is making electrification a reality, not just for the mass vehicle market, but for more diverse marketings such as mining, construction, aviation and agriculture too.
