In the seventeenth instalment of our Tech Tuesday Series, we take a bite-sized look at what goes into the technology behind our battery tech, with the seventh of our safety features at the pack level.
Pack Safety – Over Current Protection
Over Current Protection is a critical safety feature of our Hibernium® battery packs. It provides a fundamental layer of protection that helps maintain integrity and performance.
An overcurrent event could result in overheating battery system components, causing severe damage to the vehicle as well as posing a health threat to people in the vicinity.
If an overcurrent action begins, Hibernium® battery packs have a warning limit that alerts the external system if upper limits are being approached.
Once the threshold cap is reached, the power supply is instantly cut off to protect the battery and electrical equipment from possible damage.
As we shift towards an all-electric future, it is battery safety technology like this that is making electrification a reality, not just for the mass vehicle market, but for more diverse marketings such as mining, construction, aviation and agriculture too.
